Well, this will be a short post, but I wanted to post it nonetheless because I did bake something from the Baking with Julia cookbook. I decided to make a vanilla pound cake for a small dinner party that we went to on Friday evening. I will admit that I made it because a) I was short on time and b) I already had all of the ingredients… but it really goes to show that you can make something pretty fantastic in an hour and a half (and 70 of those minutes I didn’t do anything) and with what you already have in your pantry. Seriously. It was eggs, sugar, butter, flour, baking powder, salt and vanilla. That’s it.
And here’s how it looked:
I did sprinkle some powdered sugar on top just to make it look pretty, but it wasn’t in the recipe and isn’t required.
Also, I learned a little fun fact: pound cake is called pound cake because it calls for a pound of sugar, a pound of flour and a pound of eggs. Interesting!
BTW, the pound cake went over VERY well and is currently being consumed at breakfast. It’s a great dessert if you don’t want something too sweet and goes with coffee or tea really well. Enjoy!
